Agitator Types in Reactor | JCT Machinery
Nov 30,2023 JCT
Reactors, used invarious chemical processes, employ different types of agitators to ensure efficient mixing and unifor distribution of reactants. The choice of agitator type depends on factors such as the type of reaction, the properties of the materials involved, and the desired outcome.
Common agitator type in reactor
1. Propeller Agitator
Propeller agitators consist of blades attached to a central shaft. They are commonly used for blending, stirring and promoting bulk fluid movement. Propeller agitator is suitable for low-viscosity fluids.
2. Turbine Agitator
Turbine agitator features flat or curved blade and is designed to create high shear rates. It is effective for promoting chemical reactions and is commonly used in processes where heat transfer is important.
3. Paddle Agitator
Paddle agitator consists of flat blades that rotate around a central shaft. It is suitable for low to medium viscosity fluids and is often used in processes where gentle agitation is required.
4. Anchor Agitator
Anchor agitator has a helical ribbon or anchor-shaped blade that sweep the vessel walls. It is effective for blending high-viscosity materials and preventing material buildup on the vessel walls.
5. Gate Agitator
Gate agitator, also known as radial flow impeller, has blade that move radially. It is suitable for low to medium viscosity fluids and provide good redial flow patterns.
6. Spiral Agitator
Spiral agitator has blade that promote axial flow. It is often used in processes where mixing is required along the vessel axis.
7. Magnetic Agitator
Magnetic agitator uses a magnetic field to drive a rotating impeller within the vessel. It is often used in applications where a sealless design is desirable, such as in sterile processes.
8. Hydrofoil Agitator
Hydrofoil agitator has blade shaped like hydrofoil and are designed to generate high flow rates and shear. It is used in applications requiring high turbulence and mixing intensity.
9. Dual Impeller Agitator
Dual impeller agitator uses 2 impellers on the same shaft to enhance mixing efficiency. This configuration is effective for promoting good circulation and minimizing dead zones.
