What is silicone rubber properties?
1. High and Low Temperature Resistance
Among all rubbers, silicone rubber has the widest operating temperature range (-100~350℃). For example, properly blended vinyl silicone rubber or low phenyl silicone rubber can still maintain elasticity after thousands of hours at 250℃ or hundreds of hours of hot air aging at 300℃; low phenyl silicone rubber vulcanized rubber can survive dozens of hours at 350℃. It can still maintain elasticity after being aged in hot air for 1 hours. Its glass transition temperature is -140℃, and its vulvanized rubber is still elastic at -70~100℃. When silicone rubber is used as a heat-proof coating on the inner wall of a rocket nozzle, it can withstand instantaneous high temperature of thousands of degrees.
2. Resistance to Ozone Aging, Oxygen Aging, Light Aging and Weathering Aging
The performance of silicone rubber vulcanized rubber does not change significantly after being exposed to the sun outdoors for several years in a free state.
3. Electrical Insulation Properties
The electrical insulation properties of silicone rubber vulcanized rubber change little when exposed to moisture, frequency changes or temperature increases and the silica generated after combustion is still an insulator. In addition, silicone rubber has few carbon atoms in its molecular structure and does not use carbon black as a filler. Therefore, it is not prone to scorch during arc diacharge and is very reliable in high-voltage applications. Its corona resistance and arc resistance are excellent, its corona resistance life is 1,000 times that of polytetrafluoroethylene, and its arc resistance life is 20 times that of fluoro rubber
4. Special Surface Properties and Physiological Inertness
The surface energy of silicone rubber is smaller than that of most organic materials, and it has low hygroscopicity. The water absorption rate is only about 1% when immersed in water for a long time. The physical properties do not decrease, and it has good mildew resistance. It does not adhere to many materials and can be used for isolation effect. Silicone rubber is odorless and non-tpxic, has no adverse effects on the human bodym reacts slightly with body tissues, and has excellent physiological inertness and physiological aging properties.
5. High Breathability
Compared with other polymer materials, silicone rubber has good air permeability. The permeability of nitrogen, oxygen and air at room temperature is 30 to 40 times higher than that of NR. It is selective for gas permeation. For example, the permeability ti carbon dioxide is about 5 times that of oxygen.
6. Biomedical Performance
The characteristics of the molecular structure of silicone rubber give it excellent biomedical properties, as evidenced by its sucessful application in a large number of animal and human experiments.
